Located near South Cobb Drive and I-285, the Mavell Road trail head is the official starting point of the Silver Comet Trail. Traveling west, the trail passes through Smyrna and Powder Springs. Cobb County has many nice restrooms, benches along the trail, emergency telephones, water fountains, red lights, and picnic tables. Cobb County's new Heritage Park is connected to the Smyrna section of the trail.NOTE: If you are looking for that good, undisturbed workout on your bike or roller-blades, Smyrna is often too crowded. I recommend the 14-mile section that starts at Mt. Olivet Road in Paulding County and ends in Rockmart. This beautiful part of the trail has the 3-story, 800-foot antique tunnel and is well worth the drive.
Another quiet, 9-mile section of the trail runs behind the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, and ends at the huge trestle over Pumpkinvine Creek. Please visit the "POLK" and "PAULDING" sections on this web site for directions. For interesting information and pictures on the Historical Concord Covered Bridge located near the Concord Road parking lot, visit A Guide to Historic Covered Bridges of Georgia.
